Douk Audio A5 Stereo Budget Amplifier Review
Sounds great, perfect size, nice features.
A
I've a couple of Douk A5 already at home, this little monsters are moving 2 18Sound 12MB600 12" woofers like nothing, the sound quality is amazing. BUT the best experience here is with Douk customer support, USPS lost one of my packages, and after a few invertigations they (doukaudio) sent me a second one, already got it, THANKS A LOT!
"Class-X With Control" is the future of HiFi, and having a front-facing High Pass Filter (HPF) is critical for proper relief of speakers, and full subwoofer integration in any modern 2.X system. The wonderfully musical A5 allows for exact and precise control of speaker frequency range, and thus the best possible sound can be easily extracted from any speakers connected to it.
With a stereo volume-controlled AUX output, adding passive stereo subwoofers using Nobsound G2 Pro mono subwoofer amps is a real breeze, and offers the user incredible control over the low tones.
If you are starting out in HiFi in 2026, then you'll never regret getting an A5. It will be the fast-beating heart of your ever-growing HiFi system for many years to come.
Incredibly clean sounding and with more than enough power to drive any sane speaker load, the A5 ticks all the boxes - and then some! The amazingly versatile and low-priced SX52B dual discrete opamps drop right in, via the glass window, and they improve the overall sound by slightly changing the tonal character. Alternatively, simply take full ownership of the unit, and express your musical taste with your own selection of opamps.
You do NOT need the 48V PSU if you are not seeking high SPL levels in a normal room, especially if your speakers are quite efficient. For larger rooms, or less efficient speakers, grab the 48V 5A PSU, for sure. There is literally no point in splashing out for a 48V 10A GaN or Linear PSU because the 5A switch mode PSUs have more than enough headroom.
Whenever I am integrating little amps like this, the sound I am able to get from them never ceases to boggle and amaze me, and the tiny A5 is no exception. If you can't quite afford the stupendous Douk Ampapa D1, then this is your amp. And if you just want a fantastic Class-D amplifier, without a bunch of useless stuff dumped on it, but with huge ability to grow with you, then this is your amp. Buy it now. You will be so glad you did.
Outstanding sound combined with very good build quality. Has a number of unnecessary features: glass top, interior multi-colored lights, op-amp rolling features, etc. These could be stripped out and the money saved could be used to further improve sound quality at the current price. A clear winner.
